York historical and conflict simulation boardgame meetup
“No good decision was ever made in a swivel chair.” ― George S. Patton Jr.

The second Eboracon, a micro-con devoted to historical and conflict simulation boardgames, took place at the Heslington Meeting Room, York, England on Saturday 12 April 2025.
We had fifteen attendees, enough for six simultaneous games: three two-player; three multi-player. There were broadly two sessions – morning and afternoon. The two-player games – a hex-and-counter game, a point-to-point game and one from the Levy and Campaign series – lasted most of the day.
Bernie brought pizza. Thanks, Bernie!
We’ll meet again at Eboracon III on Saturday 14 June at Catton Village Hall.
Games played
18NewEngland

18xx makes its first appearance at Eboracon. I’m told it’s more forgiving than others. Bernie ran away with this.
Unhappy King Charles

Great to see the new Phalanx edition on the table in all its glory. Rupert sent packing; Charles beheaded. Well, King Charles not our Charlie.
France ’40: 2nd Edition

A rematch of this Simonitch 194x title, using the Sickle Cut scenario. I believe it was called early but the Germans had a panzer unit that could sniff the Abbeville sea breezes.
Plantagenet: Cousins’ War for England, 1459 – 1485

Some cracking War of the Roses action in this Levy and Campaign game. I think this was the Somerset’s Return scenario. You can play this on Rally the Troops.
Commands & Colors: Ancients

An old convention favourite. I’m not sure which battle this was.
People Power: Insurgency in the Philippines, 1981-1986

A much underrated, tight, three-player game that adds a lot to the COIN series.
1942 USS Yorktown

York. Yorktown. Nice segue. Looked like a fun dice-chucker.
Conquest of Paradise

South seas action. Haven’t seen this one played for some time.
In the Shadows: Resistance in France 1943 – 1944

Nice little puzzle of a game. A small package that packs a punch. This is going to be my convention filler.
Sekigahara: The Unification of Japan

We had to call it after three turns. Hope to return to it at a later date.
