Getting there

Public transport/bike

You can get a bus to:

  • Stamford Bridge (number 10)
  • Catton Lane End (X45. X46. X47)

It’s a five to ten minute cycle from either stop.

By car

If you can offer a lift to anyone, please post in the BGG Guild.

You can use the A1079 from the A64 Grimston Bar, travel for about 3 1/2 miles then turn left after the village of Kexby. Follow the minor road until you reach a T-junction, then turn left. Low Catton is a few hundred metres after that. The hall is on the left hand side just after the pub.

Alternatively, you can use the A166 via Stamford Bridge.

The hall has a car park with room for 13 cars. It’s a minute walk, opposite the Gold Cup public house. Alternatively, park in the street.

Food and drink

I recommend that you can bring your own food and drink to the venue. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery and cutlery. I will provide coffee, tea and biscuits. We’ll probably order in pizza on the Saturday.

Alternatively, the Gold Cup is a fine – if a bit expensive – pub.

There are plenty of options in Stamford Bridge which is a 5-10 minute drive. This includes a bakery, convenience shops and takeaways. Pocklington, to the east, has two supermarkets.

Accommodation

There are plenty of AirBnB rentals in and around York, as well as hotels, B&Bs. and campsites. York is a destination for foreign tourists, hen/stag weekends and general debauchery, so there’s loads of places to stay in the city.

If the city doesn’t float your boat, I can recommend the Travelodge near Monks Cross, about 15-20 minutes from the venue. There’s a Premier Inn on the A64 between the A1(M) and York. Yorkway Motel is a cheap and cheerful option near the market town of Pocklington (Pocela in Roman times); the town has good food options including Sainsburys and Lidl. East Yorkshire also has plenty of holiday lets, posh pods and swish caravans.
